If you are unsure of the difference between each type of sand and uncertain of which one will suit your particular purpose, please see below for a brief explanation of each Sand we stock:

Sydney Sand is fine, washed sand that has been cleansed of any impurities. It is suitable for tiling and rendering or paving, where it can be swept between the gaps of laid pavers. It is also suitable for use in children’s sandpits due to the cleaning process it has been through. This sand may also be known as Newcastle Sand or Beach Sand.

Washed River Sand is most commonly used by concreters and builders to make concrete when mixing with an aggregate and cement. It is excellent for pavement bedding or when laying the base course of blocks. It can be used in the garden to aerate soil or used on lawns as a levelling top dress. Washed River Sand is quite course so is often selected in landscaping projects to assist and improve drainage.

As the name suggests, brick sand is used when mixing mortar. Our two brick sands available are
White Brick Sand and Yellow Brick Sand. Their selection and use are generally dependent on the mortar colour you require. Using an off-white cement when mixing your mortar will ensure a clearer colour. Brick sand can also be referred to as ‘fatty’, referring to the higher clay content in this sand, which helps to repel water and allows the sand to become stickier and more workable.

Uni Sand (kiln dried) is mainly used on top of artificial turf. It weighs the turf down to keep it level and prevents the turf from bubbling. It is also used to fill the joints of block paving and paving slabs.
